Why Choose Hybrid Wedding Photography: Photos & Video

Published Apr 2023

Hi! I’m Aimee, a hybrid wedding photographer – no, not that kind of hybrid. I might feel like I’m half-woman, half-octopus (those six extra arms would definitely help!), but in this case, hybrid means my couples have the freedom to choose me for video as well as photography.

In this article, we’ll dive into what hybrid photography is and the benefits of adding a highlight video to your wedding photography package.

What’s a hybrid wedding photographer?

A hybrid photographer is part photographer and part videographer – think of it like a Labradoodle: part Labrador, part Poodle. Being a hybrid wedding photographer means I’m well-seasoned in both photo and video; able to switch between the two seamlessly. It’s all about capturing your day, blending the best of both worlds into one cohesive storytelling gallery.

What are the benefits?

1) More for your money

If you do want a wedding video, but a budget for a dedicated videographer is not on the cards; a hybrid photographer is more affordable than hiring separate professionals. You save on logistics, travel fees, and extra costs while still getting high-quality coverage. It’s a smart way to maximize your wedding budget without compromising on memories.

2) Your day is more about you

The bride wears an off-the-shoulder white dress, while the groom is in a suit with a vest. One discreet photographer as opposed to two different camera teams ensures your day will be captured beautifully with minimal distraction or obstruction. It also means you won’t have to spend twice as long doing things if each team does things a certain way and has opposing styles.

When I’m shooting hybrid, it’s just me and my cameras, trying to be unnoticed, documenting your day as naturally and creatively as possible. There’ll be no tripods or other camera-folk in any of your shots and your day will be all about you, you’ll barely notice me there!

3) Faster Turnaround Time

Hybrid photographers streamline their editing process, meaning you’ll likely receive both your full photo gallery and video highlights quicker than if you worked with separate teams. This is perfect for couples eager to relive their special day sooner rather than later.

4) Seamless Coordination

Cone-shaped topiary lines the path, and red brick walls with lush trees are in the background, captured beautifully by their wedding photographer as he tilts his head towards her. © Aimee Lince Photography

When you hire one person or team to handle both photography and videography, it ensures that every moment is captured without the stress of juggling multiple vendors. There’s no photographer and videographer getting under each other’s feet or in each other’s space or shots. It brings consistency in style and storytelling, creating a cohesive feel across both your wedding gallery.

5) Enhanced Storytelling

Photos capture the still beauty of your wedding day, while video brings it to life. Together, they tell a more complete story of your celebration – from candid laughter to the emotional exchange of vows, you’ll have a perfect balance of timeless stills and cinematic highlights.

6) Eco-Friendly

Fewer professionals on-site mean less travel, less gear, and a reduced environmental footprint. For couples who prioritize sustainability, a hybrid setup is a great way to reduce the overall impact of your wedding day.

I really hope this helped!
