A stunning Lincoln street engagement photography session – Ed & Makda

What an absolute treat! I am completely in love with the Lincoln architecture and it was just the best setting for Ed & Makda’s street engagement photography session! They led the way and we took a lovely casual walk together through the breathtaking cobbled streets. Lincoln Cathedral was absolutely stunning to shoot and I am so excited to do their wedding photos there!

As a photographer I felt completely spoiled for the natural backdrops, nooks, crannies and archways that plentifully presented themselves to me as we walked. At times I didn’t know where to look!

As we walked, we talked all about their upcoming wedding and how excited we all were for it. We’re hoping to do a similar shoot when they’re in their wedding outfits!

Our Story

Tell us all about your ‘the beginning!’

Ed – I had recently moved to Lincoln to start my postgrad uni course and had been on a couple of dates but nothing serious. In August 2022 I found Makda on a dating app (Hinge) and I thought she looked gorgeous. We went for our first date at Cafe Nero on one of the hottest days of the year. I was so nervous! After the first date I knew she was the one but I think she took a few dates to feel the same. Persistence is key apparently!

Makda – I’d lived in Lincoln for about 8 years, never really actively dating but 2 failed relationships prior to meeting Ed. I’d always been skeptical about online dating, having heard horror stories of how wrong it can go sometimes. My friends, especially 2 of them who met their now husbands online, pushed me to try online dating and so I gave in. Did the typical trying it then deleting because I got tired of it and not finding anyone ‘suitable’, about twice. Then I thought “ok, maybe just once more then”, and that’s when I found Ed. I was also very very nervous for the first date, frantically Googled “first date talking points”, before and on the way to the date! The chat flowed and it was apparent our values aligned nicely. Thankfully, he wasn’t a weirdo and it worked out fine!

When and where did you get engaged?

Ed – We got engaged in April 2023 on our first holiday together in Scotland. It was a coach tour and we were the youngest couple there. I had been planning to ask her for a while but the nerves didn’t really hit until the night before. I proposed on the Saturday we visited McCaig’s Tower in Oban. I had a whole speech planned out but I totally forgot it in the moment but I managed to get the main question out in Tigrinya (Makda’s first language).

Makda – Scotland during our first holiday away! Few weeks prior, he’d been going on about rings so I felt a bit suspicious… Had my nails done for the holiday anyway, I thought “just in case!”. We were in Scotland for 5 days and he popped the question on our 2nd to last day, at McCaig’s Tower! By that point I’d thought “nah, it’s not happening on this holiday”, and then it did! He’d asked a guy to take a picture of us, and then apparently whispered to him to video it as he was planning to propose and then just did it! I cried. Not sure how I’d imagined it but it felt very surreal and I was filled with lots of emotions!

What style/theme have you chosen for your wedding?

Emerald green because it is Christmassy!

What are you having your first dance to?

Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight. The reason being we danced to it in Scotland, at the Hotel we stayed at one evening. And there were a couple there who reminded us of ourselves (in the future) and said we reminded them of themselves many years ago too, and that this song was their first dance song. We knew we wanted it too after that!

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Ed – The wedding night!

Makda – To see his reaction as I walk down the aisle, and to the wedding night!

What are your top tips for other nearly-weds?

Ed – Consider hiring a wedding planner. It is shocking the amount of work you have to put in. It can get very stressful and you have to make so many decisions. Make sure you have minimum 6 months to plan everything. Also, delegate tasks early on!

Makda – Everything Ed said and also, work out how you both like to do tasks (making a list and ticking it off vs being spontaneous and doing tasks as they come). And work hard to compromise on which method you’d like to follow if doing tasks together!

“Just had a look (at the photos) they’re gorgeous! Thank you so much! You’re amazing, thank you for making us feel so at ease and so comfortable in front of the camera. So excited for the big day now!”

My wife and I used Aimee’s services for our wedding (see it here) and Engagement photo shoot. I can’t speak highly enough about her professionalism and commitment to her work. The photos and highlight video she produced are absolutely amazing and it is clear that Aimee really cares about her clients. 10/10 would recommend.

We had the pleasure of having Aimee capture our engagement shoot AND our wedding shoot, and we’re so glad we did! She’s such a wonderful human to be around. She made us feel so comfortable from the get go, which was so important! Aimee had a way of remaining in the background but capturing so many lovely moments my husband and I shared in the day. We’re absolutely in love with our engagement, wedding shoot and video highlights. Somehow, by some magic (without us telling her), she knew the perfect song to use for our wedding highlight video, a song which is very special and meaningful to us both. Could not recommend her enough!

with love
