I got to spend some squishy time with baby Isla! I am so lucky. Mum Jess got in touch to arrange a home newborn photography session a couple of weeks before Isla was even born, of course I absolutely said yes!
It took us quite a while to get newborn Isla to sleep as she just wanted to keep playing with her monkey! And she was fascinated by the camera, so we let mum settle her and tried again once we were sure she was snoozing deeply! I absolutely love capturing the love of any family, especially when it brings everyone together to celebrate a new addition!
Milky time
Ideally baby should feed before the session to ensure they are comforted, relaxed and a teeny bit sleepy! I know of course baby makes the rules when it comes to this, but an oz or two of milk just before I get there can do magic to help keep baby settled (as long as they aren’t already full!)
Outfits
These are completely up to you! If you’re stuck for ideas a plain and toned-down white/yellow/pink/blue sleepsuit can look gorgeous just as it is. Don’t forget to have lots of blankets ready so we can play with the colour and texture combinations! Keep a spare outfit to hand just in case we witness any surprise milky appearances!
Toys
If they have a favourite teddy or rattle, it’s good to keep this close by! Photos of baby cuddling teddy are just adorable and rattles can help baby look at the camera if we want they are awake.
Music
It’s always a good idea to have baby’s favourite music playing in the background, a gentle lullaby on YouTube is more than enough to set a relaxed atmosphere.
Talking
Babies love their parent’s voices! So don’t be afraid to talk or sing to them while I’m snapping away.
