Strikingly emotional wedding at Lazaat Hotel, Hull – Ashleigh & Steve

Let’s hear it for my first newlyweds of 2024! Congratulations Ash & Steve on your wedding at Lazaat Hotel in Hull last weekend. Such a stunning colour scheme and an equally stunning couple. Beautiful humans inside and out.

Their ceremony was extremely emotional! There was not a dry eye in the entire room, but it was so lovely to see everyone there just feeling the feelings and soaking up every ounce of emotion of the ceremony.

Our Story

Tell us all about your ‘the beginning!’

This is a funny story, so Steven’s best man was my friend from years back we knew each other from our early teens. They met from online gaming and had met up to have drinks. I get a message from said best man about going out to meet them for drinks with a girl I was living with at the time. This wasn’t possible as I had a one year old at the time, We invited them over the next day to have drinks at our place, Daniel (the best man) said his friend was staying over from South Yorkshire, I was intrigued by this! Daniel has friends I don’t know about?! Who is this person he is speaking about, I knew everything and everyone Daniel spoke to so this was new information. They came round the next day, his friend was definitely not feeling this, hungover and looking like a white sheet! Me and my friend offered him some water and something to help with the hangover. We ordered pizzas and chatted about stuff I can’t even remember. The boys left for the night, we chatted through messenger until the early morning. Me and Steven spoke constantly and I invited him round the next weekend as he had to travel back home. This turned into another weekend and then another weekend, this went on for a couple of months we spoke every day, had phone calls with each other. From the end of February until the beginning of May, finally Steven planned with my friend to ask me to be his girlfriend. She came up with an excuse she had to “pop out“ for a while, around an hour later, Steven turns up with flowers and asks me. Definitely unexpected!

When and where did you get engaged?

We spoke about engagement a while before hand, Steven is so laid back he’s unconscious! I told him the style of ring I wanted (I was very picky with this) I told him I’d like something simple as being the centre of attention surrounded by people who I don’t know makes me feel so awkward! Coming from someone who is a loud mouth extrovert is shocking. He planned everything with my mum, with it being her 50th birthday on the same day, she was already coming over to our house to see us all! She cheekily rang to see how far away from the house I was! My mum answered my front door, still I didn’t think anything of this as with it being her birthday, she acted all casual. Then I opened my living room door to the living room full of red balloons, roses and a large banner saying “will you marry me?” with my 1 year old wearing a T shirt saying “will you marry daddy?” The words that came out of my mouth was “you’re such a D*ckhead!” but laughing, he could have waited until I was dressed up with my nails done, but there I was in my work uniform!

What style/theme have you chosen for your wedding?

We have gone for sage green and light pink. My favourite colour is pink and although Steve’s favourite colour is a deep purple, we came to a compromise! Pink was going to be in the wedding as of course I’m always going to win a debate, and sage green was a settle colour for Steven as he couldn’t have deep purple! Purple and pink just don’t match up! Haha!

What are you having your first dance to?

We have chosen this song after a long time of looking! My all time favourite song is thousand years but Cristina Perri but this would be so predictable to do as everyone would expect this, we have gone for Perfect for me by Bradley Marshall. The words are just so perfect.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

To actually have all the family together again to celebrate. As we all live all around the country it’s hard to get us all together, so to have all the family together to celebrate is what I’m looking forward to. Also the drinks!!

What are your top tips for other nearly-weds?

When you think you have plenty of time, you don’t! We had 18 months to plan and this still wasn’t enough time, coming up to the final months, they’ll still be people you have to chase for rsvps, people will drop out and you’ll be chasing people for allergies! This is stressful and will make you want to scream! Please make sure you constantly nag and nag people to send RSVPs back, I made a Facebook group to keep all the information in one place for all invited instead of sending out information separately. You will still have people messaging regarding all the stuff you’ve said 100 times previously! Just breathe, get a good stress ball to throw at the wall when people don’t listen. You will always get people asking to bring a plus one or adults only wedding and they ask to bring children, although you may want to scream in their face and say read your invitation!! Politely remind them again and breathe! Just keep breathing!
