Tattershall Castle, Lincolnshire Wedding – Abbey & James

Wahey! Massive congratulations to Abbey & James on their vow exchange ceremony at Tattershall Castle in Lincoln! I can’t tell you what an honour it was to see Abbey’s face smiling at me at The Lincs Wedding Show. Abbey and I grew up together, so it was such a pleasure to be asked to capture their wedding ceremony for them! Abbey & James had already had their official wedding at their local registry office, but still wanted a small celebrant ceremony and some professional photos to mark the occasion (quite right too!)

The Beginning

“I went to a car show at the Oaklands with my parents and there was some people there that I knew through a family friend. James was there and was friends with those people. I kept looking at him and knew he was a bit of me. My mum even said to me “Ok, come on then, tell me who you’ve spotted, I know you will of been looking at the boys!”

So I told her and before we knew it, he came over with a crate of drinks and asked if we would like one. My mum said “ANT YOU GOT ANY DIET?” he said “oh, no sorry they didn’t have any diet”. We all laughed and she took one. Following that day I sent his friend a message to find out his surname. I then found him on Facebook and sent him a message. I still remember his reply “Oh, I didn’t expect you to message me”. We started talking and our friendship started from there!”

“We didn’t technically get engaged. We always knew we would get married one day. We decided in February we were going to do it and booked it for 6 months later.”

Abbey said…

“I just want to get to the end of the aisle and be with him as soon as I can because that’s where I feel the safest.”

The Wedding

The Ceremony

In a warmly lit room with brick walls, a bride in a white dress holding a bouquet stands between two men in suits. One, to her right, has short hair, and the other, older gentleman from Lincolnshire holds her arm. Abbey & James exchanged their vows in the main downstairs hall of Tattershall Castle; adorned with beautiful brickwork, an impressive fireplace, flowers and candles. It was an intimate gathering for their closest friends and family; very thoughtful of them!

Their bespoke and beautifully tailored exchange of vows was written and delivered by Penelope Jayne; who if I may say, had such a wonderful presence!

We were lucky enough to have a nice big tree casting a big patch of shade large enough to get some beautiful family photos. We were blessed with gorgeous weather, but there’s only so much standing and smiling you can do in the heat with the sun in your eyes!

Newlywed Photoshoot

We made full use of every stunning background Tattershall Castle had to offer, including some beautiful silhouette shots courtesy of the stained glass windows. I wish I had a trigger warning for the staircase though!

Why choose Tattershall Castle, Lincoln for your big day?

As a wedding photographer I have the privilege of spending my days exploring some of the most gorgeous venues with the most amazing teams of wedding staff. This medieval castle in the heart of Tattershall in Lincolnshire dates all the way back to the 15th century; (wowzers!) so when you book a wedding at Tattershall Castle, you’re not only bagging yourself a stunning venue, but also contributing to the upkeep of this incredible building.

It’s licensed for civil weddings as well as celebrant ceremonies; you can also enjoy a drinks reception in the grounds and have free roam of the castle to explore and have your wedding photos taken. It’s a National Trust property however, which means you’ll have to find somewhere else for your wedding breakfast and there is no smoking or vaping permitted on the grounds!

The castle’s impressive medieval brick tower and stunning grounds offer the ideal setting for you and your guests to create lasting memories. You can also take photos on the battlements, which provide views of the Lincolnshire countryside (if you can handle the staircases in the turrets!)
